Teemu Asunmaa, 35, along with his co-driver Ville Mannisenmäki, 26, were forced to retire from SM Pohjanmaa Rally due to an accident on SS1. Asunmaa and Mannisenmäki are OK following the accident. Asunmaa was on pace before the crash at the end of the first stage.
-About a kilometre before in a right-left corner combination we went a bit wide on the first corner and had wrong line going into the left hander. I tried saving the situation by driving straight to the fields, but unfortunately our car hit the banking and rolled over. We are both fine and we drove the car on its own power back to a trailer.
Asunmaa was second in FRC point standings before the SM Pohjanmaa Rally, and now focuses on the rest of the season.
-We’ll start the work to get back into the starting line for the next rally. It’s a shame in a multitude of ways. Apologies for my cooperation partners and the team.
Finnish Rally Championship continues on 26th to 27th of August in Mikkeli.
