Asunmaa finishes FRC season with a solid drive

Teemu Asunmaa, 35, and co-driver Ville Mannisenmäki, 27, have finished fourth in the final round of the Finnish Rally Championship season, SM O.K. Auto-ralli in Kouvola. Fourth in the season-ending event converts into P4 in the driver’s championship as well. Asunmaa is already preparing for next season after the difficult end to the three-time premier SM1-class champion.

-We are competing here for the championship, but unfortunately it wasn’t reachable by driving today. We drove the beautiful stages through and had a good time.

Asunmaa’s morning leg was consistent with four fifth-fastest stage time. The TGS Skoda Team driver was fifth overall before the last leg of three stages.

-The roads have been quite wet and slippery from time to time, but the stages will be a lot dryer on the second pass. The Pirelli tire has been working flawlessly on these mixed conditions. We could increase the pace quite easily, but we don’t see the need for it. We’ll focus on a solid drive with a good rhythm without looking at the stopwatch too much.

On the last three stages of the season Asunmaa was elevated to fourth place after fellow competitor’ misfortune. Asunmaa wraps up the challenging season with a P4 finish.

-We are already focusing fully on the next season. I think we needed a solid performance without risks after a few challenging events. We are sure to increase the pase during the downtime before next year’s Arctic Lapland Rally. We had successes as well; winning in Turku and Riihimäki events in FRC as well as the Sarma-rally in Latvia.

-A big thank you to all my cooperation partners, my service crew and my co-driver Ville for the season. The result wasn’t what we were hoping, but we’ll build on those blocks for the next season.
